PopSugar Must Have: August 2015 (First impressions)

This is my second month of subscribing to the PopSugar Must Have Box. And let me start off by saying: another impressive box that I am totally thrilled with! This months inspirations were: Organization, morning routines, celebrations, caffeine, and back to school. And lets be real, as a nursing student these are pretty big themes in my life. While I am technically always in school (a week off every six months with no summer breaks) I love the feeling of "going back to school".  And as a student caffeine and organization are pretty much top on my list of needs. Morning routines are a serious struggle for me. So this box seriously hit the nail on the head for me! Lets get into it!

Mediterranean Plaid Scarf by American Colors: This scarf is definitely designed after what you see people wearing all over the Middle East. When I was in Israel I wore scarves all of the time, and this style you could get everywhere. The scarf itself is beautiful. I can see it will match a ton of things I own. Its also incredibly soft as it is made of 100% cotton gauze. American Colors also included a 20% of coupon. Suggested retail is $79.

Royal Apothic Tea Balm Firming Eye Treatment: I have always had puffy dark circles under my eyes. They are pretty hard for me to cover up. I am very excited to try this cream, which claims to firm and rejuvenate skin, smooth fine lines, and get rid of dark circles. At first glance its a nice thick eye cream. Although it says "tea balm" I went ahead and did the smell test, and there is no strong smell. So for those of you with sensitive skin/eyes, I think you'd still be able to enjoy this product. Suggested retail: $36

Pastel Best Day Ever Mug: I'm a coffee lover all the way. The mug is dishwasher and microwave safe. I know I will be getting good use out of it! Suggested retail $12

Happy Jackson Yay Lunch! Lunch Box: A very cute little piece of tupperware. Unfortunately it does not have separate sections if you want to pack things separately. But it would be perfect for storing a salad, fruit, pasta, etc in! This will be great for taking my lunch to work with me. Super cute and I know I will get good use out of it! Suggested retail $10

Southern Culture Shortstacks Pancake and Waffle Mix: I loveee waffles! My roommate got a waffle iron as a gift, and I have already texted her about breakfast for dinner tonight! Plus the mix is "birthday cake" which is a flavor I totally love when it comes to ice cream/baked goods! Can't wait to try it out! Suggested Retail $7.99

Meri Meri Too Sweet Pink Strip Napkins: The napkins are very cute. I do not usually purchase this sort of thing, but it will be nice to have for when we have guests over! Suggested retail $5.95

MyYogaWorks 3 month trial: I have never really gotten into yoga. But I always hear how amazing it is for you. I think that this could be great for my half marathon training. I really need to work on stretching and strengthening. It says there are over 700 classes online...so I feel like there should be something for everyone! Definitely will be giving it a try. May also give it to a friend :) Suggested retail $45

And for the special extra: Folgers Iced Cafe Caramel Macchiato Flavored Coffee Drink Concentrate- I love me some Caramel Macchiatos. I drink iced coffee all year round. And the product is 10 calories per serving. So if you make it with skim milk or almond milk, you will be saving so many calories by skipping the Starbucks version (though those are a great treat and I won't give them up completely). When I opened this I literally got up and went ahead and made one with almond milk, and I actually really like it! Suggested retail $4.99

So there you have it! That is what is in the August PopSugar Must Have Box! The total value of the box is $200.93! At a cost of $39.99 that is a pretty amazing deal! You can sign up for PopSugar's Must Have Boxes at https://musthave.popsugar.com/ . You can order the box on a monthly basis so if you end up not loving it (but I think you totally will) you can cancel at anytime! You can also sign up for 3 month and 6 month plans. Definitely something that would make a great gift too!

What do you think of the August box??

Yurbuds review (headphones for running).

I don't really think that I am a point where running is enjoyable. I'm out of shape so its difficult, and I do find it a bit boring especially when I am on a treadmill. The other day I was chugging along and was just super irritated the entire time because my headphones kept falling out of my ears. Granted I was using iPhone headphones, which are seriously the worst. I can't even walk around and do normal chores without those falling out, let alone run.

I decided to grab a new pair of Yubuds. I had a pair in college but they didn't make it out. I remembered really liking them, so I went back to Target. I ended up going with the Yurbuds Inspire 300 for women. They retail at $39.99. As a disclaimer, I used my own money to purchase these.

The Inspire 300 Yurbuds have the same basic design. They are in ear headphones and once you put them in your ears, that is where they stay! They also come with two sizes of ear pieces so you can pick which one works best and feels the most comfortable. I personally just went with the regular size. They are designed for women's ears, which makes them fit better than any in ear headphones I have ever tried. The ear piece covers are also soft. I never find my ears hurting.

The two knew features that I really enjoy are the microphone and the magnetic ear buds. The microphone speaks for itself. It comes in handy if someone calls you. The magnetic earbuds are a new feature that I have never seen before. The magnets in the headphone connect them when you aren't wearing them to prevent the headphones from tangling up. This is actually crazy helpful! Other headphones I have had in the past, including my old Yurbuds, would get incredibly tangled. This feature keeps everything from tangling up. The earphones also come with a small pouch, so once you clip the magnets together and stick them in the pouch, you don't have to worry about tangled up headphones.

Overall I give Yurbuds an A+. They have everything I was looking for and more. I think they will be awesome for half marathon training. Anyone who is an avid runner, gym goer, or just looking for a great set of headphones, go check them out! They have multiple types to chose from, including wireless headphones. I definitely was tempted to try those but they are out of my price range at $99.99. And guy's, don't worry. There are Yurbuds made for men as well. Really I would say just look for the earphone that would best fit your own ear. I am pretty positive that this brand will have something that fits your needs (and your ears!).

You can find Yurbuds at Target, and online at http://www.yurbuds.com/en/

Nervous about advertising my blog..??

Today a friend posted my link on her facebook. I was so thankful for her help in spreading the word. And then suddenly came the nerves. What if people make fun of me for blogging? What if people don't like it?? I started feeling awkward and unsure of myself. What if this is going to be another hobby that kind of ends up being a fail...?

But then I just had this moment where it clicked. Why should I care what other people think of this? The whole point in me starting a blog was to do something that made me happy, and gave me an outlet to relax and do something I enjoy while I am in school.  It also is another tool to help me be kept accountable for my fitness goals. So if I am doing this for me...there is no reason to worry what others will think.

And so far it looks like my friends who have checked it out and gotten back to me actually like it! I am sure there are others who wont. They could make fun of it, or gossip. But that is totally fine by me. I am so done trying to be good enough for other people. Instead I want to be the best I can be and focus on me right now. The last few years have not been easy. This last year may have been the worst and hardest of my life. But I learned and I grew and I am on a beautiful journey now! And it's time I live my life to the absolute fullest! I am planning so many big things. I want to be a mentor to a child in the DMV area. I want to go to Kenya with my school to provide help at a clinic for two weeks. I want to truly learn to love myself, so that I can find love with another person.

So if there is something you want to do, DO IT *insert Shai LaBeouf video*.  Stop being afraid of what others will think or say. Do you! Make yourself happy. If we really want to live wonderful lives and have incredible journeys, we have to do whats best for ourselves. By bettering yourself, you are able to make a positive impact on others.

And lastly, if you ever find yourself being bullied, reach out to me! I have dealt with it on and off throughout my life. I was even bullied in college by people I thought were supposed to be my safety net during college and even after. And it sucks. It hurts. You want to scream and cry. But if someone can't accept you for who you are...remove them from your life. I spent such a long time keeping negative people in my life. And now that they are gone and I am surrounded by friends who truly care and love me for me, I am so much happier. I would much rather have a small group of friends that love and support one another then have a giant group of friends who don't. Just know that it too will be pass.  You are not alone, and you are loved even more than you know!

Popsugar must have: July 2015 products

Hi everyone!

Last month was my first ever Popsugar must have box! After seeing about a million unboxings on youtube, I decided to go ahead and subscribe! Popsugar must have is a monthly subscription box that is $39.95. It comes with come fashion, beauty, fitness, and food products. It differs from many beauty subscription boxes because it comes with awesome lifestyle/home products as well. And while $39.95 may seem pricey for a subscription box (I know for the longest time that deterred me) the value of the box is always over $100! What I really like is that with most of the products they are things that I otherwise would not have tried!

I was going to wait and just start blogging about the box in August, but I decided to go ahead and give the July box some love! I definitely loved it!

Here are the products in the July box! Since I've already used all of mine I am using the photo from the Popsugar Must Have website! Gotta give that photo cred ;)

The July box was all about summer travel! Which I definitely loved! All of the products were so practical to me!

1) The first product was probably the most popular. The Henri Bendel Signature Strip Canvas Drop Kit! I have never in my life owned anything by Henri Bendel so I was very excited! The bag is adorable and expands so you can really fit a ton of stuff into it! Ever since I got it I have been using it for my makeup bag in my purse. The inside is made of a material that is very easy to clean, however the outside is canvas so I need to figure out the best way to clean it. Such a cute and practical bag! LOVE LOVE LOVE.

2) Supergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50- I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!! I love this product because it helps polish my makeup look and keep it in place. But what I really love is that it has SPF 50! Sometimes facial sunscreens can really irritate my skin. This mist is so light and refreshing! I have had no irritation at all with it! It is rosemary scented but the sent is not overpowering and once you spray it its gone within seconds. Love using this in the morning and then refreshing throughout the day when I am spending time out and about in the sun!

3) Sorial Card Case- This is a very nice red leather card case that is perfect for going out! It holds your I.D and one or two other cards. It would be perfect for a little tiny clutch, or to have your significant other stick in their pocket ;). I am using mine for my school cards as we have to scan into buildings and rooms at my nursing school!

4) Popdental portable toothbrush- Okay so I heard people complain about this product. But I thought it was great!!! How many times do you go out, think you're coming back home only to stay at a friends. That happens to me so often! And I never have a toothbrush so I just feel so yucky the next morning! Or what if you are on a date going really well and you think there may be some kissing after dinner ;)?? Having an emergency toothbrush is seriously perfect! The toothbrush comes with a battery (its an electric one too) and a replacement head! I personally stuck mine into the Henri Bendel bag so I am always prepared.

5) Yes To Blueberries- Cleansing wipes: I heard complaining about this too! But you know what? I always need makeup removing wipes! I use them every single day and I bet a lot of you makeup lovers do to! And if you don't wear makeup they are a great way to cleanse and refresh your skin after a long day, or on the go! I personally have kept these by my bedside for the nights when I am exhausted, hop into bed, and then realize I haven't taken my makeup off! They smell lovely and are gentle on the skin!!

6) The Good Bean: Fruit & No-Nut Bar- Berry Chocolate! This was the snack of the month! It came with one bar. I personally love trying new foods, especially from brands that I haven't heard of. Since I have a nut allergy, I loved that this was nut free so I could enjoy it! The bar itself was interesting. It's made with chickpeas and has a good texture (Seriously important to me! lol). I would definitely consider buying a box! And hey, if you don't want the snack you can always give it to a friend or family member! Will not go to waste!

7) Hallmark signature cards- These were not pictured, probably because everyone got different ones. Each box came with three different cards. They are all so beautiful! Some people didn't like that it came with cards, but let me tell you! How many times do you realize its someone's birthday, or you have to go to event and need a card? Well whenever that happens I only realize last minute that I don't have one and have to race to the store! I think its perfect to have beautiful cards on hand that I can pull out for the occasion!

So there you have it! That was the July must have box! I personally give it an A+! I loved all of the products, will get use out of everything, and thought it was perfectly matched for the month of July! And for $39.95 you got a box that was worth over $125 dollars! That is a serious deal. And one other thing to point out, is that if you don't like something or wont personally get use out of it...it could be the perfect gift for a friend!

Overall I am so happy with the July box and thrilled I decided to subscribe. You can order your Popsugar Must have box from  PopSugar Must Have!

Half Marathon?!?!

Years ago, I made a goal of running a half marathon. And every time I made progress running...I just gave up or stopped. Usually the result of lack of motivation. But a friend convinced me to give it a try, and I signed up for my first half marathon, which will be in Baltimore on October 17th. Which is 10 weeks from now *panics*.

For my training plan I will be using the Hal Higdon program, which you can find online or in the app store for $9.99. This app has been recommended to me by multiple runners. The program itself prepares you for a half marathon over 12 weeks. The program alternates between running, cross training, rest days, and long runs. The app is full of motivation and tips. So far I am not a huge fan of the app. I find it difficult to log my runs. If you are training and would like to use the same program, you can find it online to print out, and then log your run's in the app of your choice.

I am currently in week 2 of training. As of Sunday I will be 10 weeks away from the event. Right now I still walk/run and I honestly cant imagine running 6 miles let alone 13.1. But I am really going to try to follow the program, and see if it gets me to where I want to be. Will I run the entire 13.1 without stopping? Probably not! But I am going to do my best and finish no matter what!

I will definitely blog about my progress. My next update will probably be around week 6 at the half point mark!

Welcome to my blog!

Hi y'all! Thanks for checking out my blog. I just wanted to do a quick intro post about myself and what will be on my blog!

My name is Miriam (so...life with me ;)  ). I am 23 years old and just went back to school to get a second bachelors degree in nursing. I live in Northern Va just outside of D.C so I love exploring all that the DMV has to offer! I love to cook and try new recipes, and am a huge soccer fan!

Here is what you can expect to find posts about on my blog :):

  • Beauty- I love trying new products! I plan to review all of my future purchases. Note: I have decided to only purchase products that are cruelty free. A ton of the brands we all know and love have gone cruelty free! But unfortunately some have not :(. Unfortunately I do not have control over what subscription boxes choose to use. So I'm not currently sure what I will do with those products.
  • Exercise: Follow me as I train for a half marathon! Lets get healthy together! Will post about progress, plateaus, fitness gear, etc.
  • Unboxings!- I am currently subscribed to PopSugar's Must Have Box! I got my first box in July and can already say I am a little bit obsessed. Mostly because its not all beauty! They often send books, home goods, jewelry, etc. It's a lifestyle box! (But okay...there are beauty products in them...;)  ) I am also active on Influenster now! For a long time I totally forgot about the website, and when they offered me boxes it went straight to spam for some reason :(( But that is all fixed, so if I am chosen to test future boxes you will find the reviews on here! I will be doing unboxing posts, but then I will also be reviewing individual products! This includes books, lifestyle products, beauty, and even the snacks ;)
  • New recipes- If I find awesome new recipes for meals, snacks, baked goods, etc., I will be posting them here for you all!
  • Nursing school- If you are interested in the process of nursing school and the life of a nursing student, I will be making posts as I make progress throughout my program. Note: This will be about my experience. The good, the bad, and the ugly. That being said there will NOT be gross medical stories. It will be on my thoughts and feelings. If you're looking for detailed cases, you wont get them here! But if there is something you are interested in, comment on the post and I will do my best to send you in the right direction!
  • Travel/Activities- I LOVE to travel and try new things! I will post about different places I go and activities I do! For example, I am planning on going paddle boarding soon, and will do a post talking about prices, level of difficulty, etc! I will be posting a lot about D.C, but will also post whenever I get to go somewhere new :)

I am really excited to be blogging again, and hope that you find my posts interesting/helpful! Make sure to subscribe to get my latest posts!
